The driver rankings of the French Grand Prix 2019 

20. Romain Grosjean DNF              Haas          

Romain Grosjean didn't have a good home Grand Prix in France. He couldn't get a clear run at Qualifying and qualified seventeenth. In the race it didn't get much better and Haas had a bad weekend. At lap 44 Romain Grosjean had to retire the car.

19. George Russell                    Williams 

George Russell had to missed FP1 because Nicholas Latifi drove the FW42 on Friday morning. When he got back in the car he was quicker than his team-mate Robert Kubica, but had a lot of electrical issues. He had to miss FP3 and got a penalty and had to start from the back of the grid. In the race he got front-wing damage and had to make an extra pit-stop. Because of that he ended up behind his team-mate this race.  

Rate: 6.5/10

18. Robert Kubica                      Williams 

Robert Kubica beat his team-mate in the race for the firsts time this season. But he still couldn't keep up with his team-mate. Russell missed FP3 but was quicker than Kubica. Kubica finished the race in front of Russell but that was because Russell had damage on his front-wing. 

Rate: 6/10

17. Kevin Magnussen                     Haas 

It was a really bad weekend for Haas. Magnussen had a slightly better weekend than Grosjean. He made it into Q2 and qualified fifteenth. He had a good start but got problems with his tires and finished seventeenth. 

Rate: 6.5/10

16. Antonio Giovinazzi        Alfa Romeo 

Antonio Giovinazzi had a good Qualifying and out-qualified his team-mate Räikkönen. He qualified tenth. In the race he had some good battles with Albon but got problems with his tires and finished sixteenth. 

Rate: 7/10

15. Alexander Albon             Toro Rosso 

Alexander Albon was quicker than his team-mate in Qualifying and got into Q2 and almost into Q3, he qualified eleventh. But at the start of the race he had to run wide and lost 5 places. He made up some places but after his own pit-stop he dropped back to place fifteen.

14. Daniil Kvyat                     Toro Rosso 

Daniil Kvyat had to start the French Grand Prix from the back of the grid because of the penalty's he got due a new engine from Honda. Perhaps that's why he was slower than his team-mate on Friday and Saturday. But in the race he showed that he had a good pace and finished in front of Albon. 

Rate: 7/10

13. Lance Stroll                   Racing Point 

Another Q1 elimination for Lance Stroll this weekend in France, he qualified eighteenth. In the race he performed a lot better and even drove in the top six. But then he had to make his pit-stop and dropped out of the points. His team might have called him a little earlier, his first was 39 laps! 

Rate: 7/10 

12. Sergio Pérez                 Racing Point 

Sergio Pérez was faster than his team-mate this weekend and made it into Q2, he qualified fourteenth. He had a good start but then the news came that he got a 5-second penalty for cutting the chicane at the start. It seemed a bit unfair but Pérez had fought back and made up four places at the end of the race.

11. Daniel Ricciardo                   Renault 

Daniel Ricciardo out-qualified his team-mate this weekend in France and qualified eight. At the start of the race he braked a bit to early and lost two places. But in the end of the race he overtook many people and finished seventh. But then he got two 5-second penalty's, one for leaving the track and gaining an advantage and one for rejoining the track unsafe. Both had to do with the move on Lando Norris. 

Rate: 8/10

10. Pierre Gasly                         Red Bull 

Pierre Gasly made it into Q3 in Qualifying and qualified ninth. He had to start on the soft tire and had an impressive first stint, he pitted after 17 laps. After his pit-stop he dropped to the fifteenth place. He crossed the line outside of the points at the eleventh place, but due the penalty's of Ricciardo he had been classified tenth. 

Rate: 6/10 

9. Lando Norris                          McLaren 

Lando Norris had a really good Qualifying and qualified fifth, with just 0.009 second away from Verstappen, who qualified fourth. And he out-qualified his team-mate. In the race his team-mate overtook him and Vettel also overtook him. But he drove a strong race and it still looked like he was going to finish seventh. But then he got lots of issues and his car was undriveable. He crossed the line in tenth place but due the penalty's of Ricciardo he had been classified ninth. An amazing performance from him to finish the race, with those problems. He also got driver of the day. 

Rate: 8.5/10

8. Nico Hülkenberg                     Renault 

Nico Hülkenberg was out-qualified by his team-mate this weekend and qualified thirteenth. In the race Ricciardo was faster, but Hülkenberg also drove a really good race and after Ricciardo was penalized he finished in front of Ricciardo. A good race from Hülkenberg. 

Rate: 7.5/10

7. Kimi Räikkönen                Alfa Romeo 

Kimi Räikkönen was out-qualified by his team-mate on Saturday and qualified twelfth. But he could start on the hard tire, and he had a really good pace. He dropped back to the eleventh place after his pit-stop, but he recovered a couple of places and finished seventh. A good weekend for him. 

Rate: 8/10

6. Carlos Sainz                           McLaren 

Carlos Sainz was out-qualified by his team-mate Lando Norris and qualified sixth. But at the start of the race he overtook Norris. He lost a place to Vettel after that but there was not much he could do about that. A really good race from Sainz in France, he finished sixth. 

Rate: 8/10

5. Sebastian Vettel                        Ferrari 

Sebastian Vettel didn't have a really good Qualifying and qualified seventh. In the race he overtook Sainz and Norris but couldn't attack Verstappen. He finished fifth. 

Rate: 7/10 

4. Max Verstappen                    Red Bull 

Max Verstappen out-qualified his team-mate and qualified fourth. He had a bit of a lonely race and couldn't attack Leclerc and Vettel couldn't attack him. He managed to keep his fourth place. 

Rate: 8/10

3. Charles Leclerc                        Ferrari 

Charles Leclerc was faster than his team-mate all weekend. He qualified third. In the race he couldn't attack the Mercedes cars. In the end he came closer to Bottas but afterwards he said that he never had a real chance to overtake him.

2. Valtteri Bottas                      Mercedes 

Valtteri Bottas was faster than his team-mate on Friday, and was favorite for pole. But then Hamilton put in an amazing lap and was 0.3 seconds faster than Bottas. In the race he couldn't keep up with the pace from Hamilton and finished second. 

Rate: 7.5/10

1. Lewis Hamilton                    Mercedes 

Lewis Hamilton was dominant on Saturday and Sunday in France, he got pole with a gap of 0.3 seconds. In the race he had an amazing pace and finished 18 seconds in front of his team-mate who finished second.
