The driver rankings of the Chinese Grand Prix 2019 

20. Nico Hülkenberg DNF             Renault 

Nico Hülkenberg had a good Qualifying and qualified eight. He had a difficult start to the race and lost a position. After he pitted he came out in some traffic, but then he felt loss of power. They had to retire the car with engine related issues.

19. Daniil Kvyat DNF               Toro Rosso 

Daniil Kvyat had an okay Qualifying, he qualified eleventh. At the first lap he collided with Sainz and Norris, and he got a drive-trough penalty for that. He could continue and he made up a few places. But at lap 43 they retired the car, because he had too much damage from the crash.

18. Lando Norris DNF                  McLaren 

Lando Norris hasn't had the best Qualifying, he qualified fifteenth. At the start he collided with Kvyat and Sainz, and he had a lot of damage. He could continue but the pace was not good. 3 laps before the end of the race they retired the car. 

Rate: 6/10

17. Robert Kubica                         Williams 

Robert Kubica qualified eighteenth, because Giovinazzi and Albon didn't drive in Qualifying. At the start he won a few places. Kubica finished seventeenth, again the maximum result for him.

16. George Russell                       Williams 

George Russell qualified seventeenth, for the third time he out-qualified his team-mate. At the start he had a few battles but after that things settled down. Also the maximum result for him. 

Rate:6.5/10

15. Antonio Giovinazzi           Alfa Romeo 

Antonio Giovinazzi couldn't participate at Qualifying in China. Because he had problems with the engine. In the race he overtook some people but at the end he finished fifteenth, in front of the two Williams cars.  

Rate: 6.5/10

14. Carlos Sainz                           McLaren 

Carlos Sainz qualified fourteenth. At the start of the race he collided with Kvyat and Norris, he had damage but still managed to continue. He finished fourteenth.

13. Kevin Magnussen                         Haas 

Kevin Magnussen qualified ninth at the Chinese Grand Prix. Magnussen failed to get a time in Q3 after missing the flag. In the race Magnussen dropped out of the top 10, a lack of pace this weekend from Haas. 

Rate: 6.5/10 

12. Lance Stroll                     Racing Point  

Lance Stroll qualified sixteenth, not a very good Qualification for him. In the race it went a bit better and he overtook some people. in the last lap he made a nice move on Magnussen. He wasn't happy with the strategy, he thinks it cost him a point. 

Rate: 7/10

11. Romain Grosjean                         Haas 

Romain Grosjean didn't set a time in Q3, just like his team-mate, he qualified tenth. In the beginning of the race he lost a couple of places, but at the end he pitted for new mediums and he closed the gap to Albon. But he failed to overtake him. 

Rate: 7/10

10. Alexander Albon                Toro Rosso 

Alexander Albon missed Qualifying because of his heavy crash in FP3. He had to start from the pit-lane. Albon drove an amazing race and managed to drive in the top 10 after starting from the pit-lane. He also managed to keep Grosjean behind in the end of the race. He was chosen as driver of the day.

9. Kimi Räikkönen                   Alfa Romeo 

Kimi Räikkönen missed out Q3 for the first time since Hungary 2016. He qualified thirteenth. Räikkönen was on an one-stop strategy and due that he could get in the top 10 and score some points. He had some good overtakes. 

Rate: 7/10

8. Sergio Pérez                      Racing Point 

Sergio Pérez qualified twelfth but he drove a good race and finished eight. At the opening lap he drove from P12 to P8. And because he was on a one-stop strategy he managed to keep Räikkönen behind. 

Rate: 8.5/10

7. Daniel Ricciardo                         Renault 

Daniel Ricciardo was good all weekend in China. Last year's winner qualified seventh with a gap of 0.004 seconds to his team-mate Hülkenberg. And he was only 0.028 seconds slower than Gasly who qualified sixth. In the race he managed to keep the sixth place.

Rate: 8/10

6. Pierre Gasly                               Red Bull 

Pierre Gasly qualified sixth but was 0.9 seconds slower than his team-mate Verstappen. In the race he started on a softer compound than the other cars in the top 6 but he wasn't able to keep up with the pace. At the end of the race he pitted for soft tires to get the fastest lap and he managed to get it. 

Rate: 6.5/10

5. Charles Leclerc                            Ferrari 

Charles Leclerc qualified fourth. In the race he was faster than Vettel but because of the team orders he lost a place to Vettel and Verstappen. A bit of a disappointing race but that was also because of the team orders.

4. Max Verstappen                              Red Bull 

Max Verstappen qualified fifth, like the two Haas cars and Gasly he was too late to make a second stint in Q3. At lap 20 he made a move on Vettel, but he couldn't overtake him. But he managed to stay ahead of Leclerc. The maximum result for him here in China.

Rate: 7.5/10

3. Sebastian Vettel                          Ferrari 

Sebastian Vettel qualified third. In the beginning of the race Leclerc had to let Vettel pass, because Vettel thought he was faster. Vettel did a good job to keep Verstappen behind and get his first podium of the year.

2. Valtteri Bottas                         Mercedes 

Valtteri Bottas out-qualified his team-mate Hamilton and got pole-position. At the start he had a lot of wheel-spin and he said that this was the reason that Hamilton overtook him at the start. He managed to keep the second place.

Rate: 7/10

1. Lewis Hamilton                       Mercedes 

Lewis Hamilton missed out on pole by 0.023 seconds. But at the start he immediately overtook Bottas and kept the lead from that moment. It was Hamilton's 75th win in Formula 1.
